Wales is a town in Erie County, NY. The population was 2,960 at the 2000 census. The population density was 83.1 people per square mile.
The first known settlers arrived around 1806. The town was formed in 1818.
The town is one of the "Southtowns" of Erie County by virtue of its position in the southeast part of the county, south of Buffalo. The name was provided by early settlers from Wales.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 35.6 square miles.
